Social Worker Named GCS Employee of the Month
Shantae Jackson supports students and families at Wiley Elementary

Greensboro, N.C. – She served our country as an Army soldier in Iraq. Now Shantae Jackson is serving the community of Wiley Elementary as the school social worker. And yesterday, after only 10 months on the job, she was named the GCS Employee of the Month.

Jackson made a positive impression on principal LaToy Kennedy early on, helping connect with two families that were homeschools and had been unreachable amid the pandemic. More recently, she drew praise for her work to help a student who had a significant and urgent need for support that his family could not provide.

“SUPERWOMAN! Confidant! Dedicated! Supportive! Passionate! Compassionate! Resourceful! Team-Player! Hands-on! Consistent! Ms. Jackson is a true asset to our learning community,” wrote Robin Hill Tucker in her nomination, one of 17 Jackson received. “She has a spirit of excellence in all that she does. It is because of her passion for teaching and learning that students who have been chronically absent are in school. She is a mission-driven ‘go-getter.’”

Carrie Ratley wrote, “Ms. Jackson has the love and compassion for the students here at Wiley school. I appreciate her for understanding and believing in these students when they don’t believe in themselves. She makes sure the students have the necessary things they need from day to day even if it has to come from her home or pockets.”

As the December GCS employee of the month, Jackson received a $50 Visa gift card courtesy of Greensboro Jaycees, which sponsors the Employee of the Month program. Her photo will hang at the district’s central offices, at Wiley Elementary and at the Greensboro Jaycees office.
