Library Media Services Director Named Employee of the Month

A teacher workday means a day of professional development for the district’s media specialists, who gathered today at Smith High. They didn’t mind a brief interruption, however, to celebrate library media services director Natalie Strange, who, in front of her family, colleagues and supervisors, was surprised with the news that she is the April GCS Employee of the Month.

Her colleagues are quick to praise her wealth of knowledge, her willingness to help in any situation and her advocacy in supporting the profession and increasing district resources.

“Natalie is one of the most hands-on Library Media Services Directors I have seen in my 20+ years working in GCS school libraries,” wrote Nancy Cravey, library media services lead teacher, in one of 32 nominations for Strange. “She is regularly out in schools helping our school librarians reshape their spaces, their instruction and their programs to better serve our students. She is thoughtful in her decision-making, always sure to put the needs of students first while also advocating for school librarians to have the resources and time to build dynamic school libraries. Natalie’s hard work and dedication have helped revitalize library collections, bring in STEM initiatives and strengthen communication between departments so that our school libraries can collaboratively serve all of our students. She is an excellent representative of school libraries and GCS.”

Strange received a $50 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of April, her photo will be displayed at the district’s central offices and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
